1/15/23 Sea Emperor

The Sea Emperor was a hopper barge 171' long and 45' wide that lies in 70' of water, and is still mainly intact. The barge is upside down with the bow pointing to the South. Inside parts of the shipwreck, and to the East of the wreckage, lie 1600 tons of concrete drainage culverts, which were used to help sink the barge. The Sea Emperor is home to Goliath Groupers, eels, stingrays, nurse sharks and hundreds of other fish! Photographers love this dive site!
This wreck is easily penetrable since there is light and access to the surface in every chamber. This dive site has been featured in numerous magazines and T.V. shows worldwide. The Sea Emperor is part of a 3 wreck triangle- The United Caribbean lies to the SE and can be reached by following the limestone artificial reef 'pathway'. The Noulla Express lies to the East, however it is not as easy to reach in a single dive.

How she met her sandy demise: the Sea Emperor was donated as part of a fine levied on a dredging company that destroyed some reef habitat off Palm Beach County. She was filled with large concrete culverts and then sunk off the coast of Boca Raton. In the process of sinking the barge, it flipped over, scattering the culverts and landing upside down creating a fantastic playground for fish and divers alike!
